What's My DNS?

So I've had this idea for quite a while now and I've just gone out and bought a VPS, so I've set up the new server and figured I'd finally get to work on the idea that I've had so I've bought the domain I've got a beta version working.

The site is called What's My DNS? - Global DNS Check, and as the name implies it allows you to do a check of your DNS records at all different locations around the world.

This is particularly useful for webmasters and anybody who has to make changes to their name servers or zone files associated with their domain name as it allows you to monitor propagation around the world.

I'm currently just looking for a bit of feedback on the design, general layout, how well it works for you and if there's any browser incompatibilities as I'm just not able to test in all browsers/configurations.

I've got a few ideas for extra things to implement in the system but will sort them out after the core features are done, that said, of course I'm always interested in hearing ideas of possible additions.
What's My DNS - Global DNS Check - www.whatsmydns.net
I'm looking forward to everybody's feedback!

Vroom Vroom!

So I picked up my new car yesterday. I love it. Has a few little problems at the moment but they're getting fixed so all round I'm very happy.

Oh gosh I just squished an ant on my desk and it's got yucky ant smell!

Anyhow, the car is a 2003 Nissan Pulsar. Has done 36,000k's on the clock so is somewhat new, very clean inside and I couldn't be more happy.

Now most importantly, photos!

A New Year

So another year has passed, and it really did fly by didn't it. I tried to think of a new years resolution for '07 but at the time (keeping in mind I was drunk) nothing came to mind - so if anybody has some decent suggestions then throw them my way.

We had a party at Scotty's place last night so that was pretty good. Went up to the top of the hill at his place to this lookout thing to see the city - too bad the fireworks were just dodgy though.

So I've been playing this Tower Defence game recently and gosh it's addictive, my record is level 82.
http://www.jeannettevejarano.com/tower-defence.swf
That's about it for now I think, glad my blog/calendar didn't break with the year change so that's a winner.

See you all in 2007 I guess :)

We're In Business

So the new system is pretty much done now. I've added a few cool features along the way also. All that's left now is the about and contact pages along with a few minor tweaks/additions.

Things that are now completed include the new commenting system. I've included a captcha (security code) that must be entered in order to post though to hopefully deter spam bots. It can be a bit hard to read at times so let me know if it's too obscured and I'll tone it down a bit.

I've made a theme system also, there's currently a choice between blue and green. Once activating the theme it will set it in a cookie so you must have them enabled for it to work. This is done so it will remember your settings on return visits.

I've also implemented a search feature into the site so if you want to find something all you have to do is type it directly into the url, if the page matches it will go to it otherwise it will search the entire site for the content you requested. To search, simply add your search query to the url. Eg:
http://blog.mondodev.net/tv
The gallery is also up now so feel free to browse the images available there. I will upload more photos when I get the time and also try make an effort to keep it updated when I get new photos.

I also have a links section so if you want to link me then let me know and I'll link you back.

I guess that's about it for now, if anybody has any cool ideas then let me know. Don't forget that the comments are now working so let me know what everyone thinks of this new design/system.

Almost Done

So as is probably noticeable the new blog system is almost finished. A few things have been changed around since I first started the new system but it's generally the same as it was.

I thought I'd be silly and actually ask for permission to use some of the images contained in the page header, I was denied to using the old butterfly (which I've since replaced with this new one - and it's better anyhow) and also got granted permission to use the flower background.

I've got the comments working now too (you just can't add new ones yet). I had it doing some fancy effects but they broke when using IE so I had to remove them :-(

So other then the comments, all I've got left is the about and contact pages which should be fairly trivial anyhow along with the gallery. I think I'm going to create a new gallery script so that may not be up for a while.

Oh I've also got these cool little quote things I can put in my posts.
and this is what they look like..

;-)
I would say leave a comment to let me know what everyone thinks of the new system but as I haven't finished that yet I guess not hey ;-)

New Blog System

Okay so as I promised (quite a while ago) I have finally gotten around to updating this blog system. It's a work in progress, so that's why half of it breaks at the moment - this should be all fixed in the coming days. I also think it looks a lot better now, in my opinion anyhow.

I don't know how long my efforts are going to last by continuing posting here but I guess time will tell. It is however holidays now so I've got heaps of spare time to kill so maybe it will be more frequent then everyone (and myself) are expecting.

Okay so I've decided, right now - that I'm going to recode the entire system and make it not so crappy. Only problem with that is I need to find some time to actually do it. So yeah, look out for some potential updates on this site sometime in the nearish future.

Rainbows and Things..

Okay so I guess holidays have officially started since I'm bored already. Had my last exam on Saturday, went fairly well I think - definitely would have passed anyhow so that's my definition of fairly well. Mind you, I only needed like 23% on the final exam to be able to pass the course so it shouldn't have been too hard.

So after the exam went to the RE with Zeke, Paul and Alex and met up with all the other randoms from IRC and whoever else was there that had finished their exams and basically just felt the need for a beer.

After most of those guys (and a few girls believe it or not) had left Leith and Elise turned up and we went up stairs for a few more drinks until Scotty and Tyson came. When they got there we all started on the cocktail drinks and everybody thought it would be fun to pick on me since I was the drunk one since I sorta started hours earlier then them all.

Went to the city later that night which was good and finally ended the night with a kebab. The perfect end to any night out.

So yeah, I'm sort of bored of writing this now so I'm just gona post some pictures of a rainbow I took at my place a few days ago in my attempts to avoid study.
That was last night, was a pretty good movie actually. I'd recommend people to watch it when it comes out.

Okay so basically this is just an excuse for me to do my monthly blog so I figure I'll even stick up a pretty picture while I'm at it.

I Can't Feel My Toe

So went out Friday night to see End of Fashion with Leith, Emma, Bec and Mel. Was a fairly good night in the end even though there were a few hassels actually getting there in the first place. I was fine, but girls will be girls and tend to stuff around. I did however manage to make friends with some random people in the line so I wasn't totally bored waiting by myself.

So after that Leith and I went to the Valley to wait for the other girls who were in the city. Met up with them and blah blah blah then Rod came out and met us but Scotty was too much of a sook and went straight home from the city. Since Rod was such a nice guy and wasn't drinking he dropped everyone home so that means I didn't have to catch a train and walk home from the train station so that basically made my night.

So now, two days after going out.. I still can't feel my toe properly. I have absolutely no idea why, it didn't get stomped on and I don't recall doing anything too stupid in order to hurt it - at least that I remember anyhow. It's not like entirely without feeling, just feels funny and doesn't have the sensitivity it should. Quite odd, but oh well I'm sure I'll survive.

I'm contemplating doing some Uni work at the moment, really don't want to but I really should. So we'll see how that goes.

The Monthly Post

Okay so it seems as if I'm only posting once a month, and the reason it seems that way is probably because I actually am only posting once a month. I don't really have any excuses except for the fact that I'm slack.

So why am I posting now? I'm bored basically. This is the first weekend in a long time that I don't actually have any Uni work to do. I mean sure, I have material that I could be studying so I'm not completly screwed time finals come around but that's just not going to happen.

I would post here more often but I don't think anybody really cares what is said so maybe I'll just do it for the hell of it just to have something that I can look back on and read in a few years time.

Comp2303 midsem exam results are in and I got 8/20, which was the average mark so I'm pretty happy with that really. I'm up in the 95% range for assignments so I figure I can drop a bit on the exams and still be able to pass the subject.

What else is new? Well we got a new printer yesterday so that's pretty cool, does all sorts of fancy stuff like print directly to CDs/DVDs so I've been playing around with that a little bit.

Mum got a sweet deal on it too, it's a Canon Pixar IP4200 (which RRP is $199) and she got it for $145 so that's good.

I think that's pretty much all I've got for now. Maybe, just maybe I'll try to keep posting here on a regular basis - we'll see I guess.

Back To School

Okay so this week was my first week back at Uni. Firstly, I'll just start by saying that Ipswich is a bloody long way away. Every Monday now I'm going to have to travel to St Lucia where Tyson will drive us to Ipswich for 3 hours, mind you, the class does look pretty cool so I guess it's worth it. The bad part is that it took me approx 2.5 hours to get home on Monday so that sucked pretty bad, although I guess I got to catch up on some podcasts so that's not too bad.

Tuesday I was back at St Lucia and had my first lecture for Comptuer Graphics, it seems like it's also going to be good - just I'm going to have to learn to program in C sometime soon.

I also had a 2 hour lecture of the dreaded COMP2303 - Network & Operating Systems Principles and that was just as boring as it always has been. I guess now would be a good time to mention the IRC channel that we've got going for this subject since I seem to get people reading my blog from putting in google searches for subjects im doing. Anyhow, the server is irc.sorbs.net which is located within UQ for all you people that live on campus and the channel is #comp2303. There seems to be 2 tutors in there at the moment so it should be a good support channel this year.

Um, I don't really have a lot more to say except I'm headed up to Hervey Bay next week for Josh's weddding so that should be pretty awesome!

So that's about it. Dunzo.

Thought I'd Better..

Okay well yeah, I thought since it's been an entire month since the last time I posted on here that I'd better write something.

So much has happened recently but I'm not even going to bother trying to remember it all and fit it on here. I think I'll have to just try and blog more often so that I dont get that problem again - we'll see how long that lasts though.

So yeah, I've been getting heaps of work lately so that's awesome. I think sometimes I've been getting a little too much all at once so that makes things hard but I manage.

I've moved in with Tyson for a little while at St Lucia since Nathan and Kristen have gone away for 2 weeks and so far it's been pretty good here. At least it's closer to the city and everything else. Only problem is it's hard to do any work here beacuse I don't have my server and normal setup I use for development.

If anybody is interested these are the subjects I'm doing this semester at uni:

COMP2303 - Network & Operating Systems Principles
COMP3201 - Computer Graphics
CSSE3004 - Advanced Information Technology Project
MMDS2201 - Digital Video Production

I also recently gave into the peer pressure (well, nagging if you will) that Rees and Rach gave me to join stupid MySpace. You can see my totally awesome page at http://www.myspace.com/mondodev
